Tomorrow morning my wife will take me to the airport and I’ll start a 48 hour journey to Uganda. I’ll travel over to Frankfurt, Germany then down to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and on down to Entebbe, Uganda. A friend will pick me up at the airport and we’ll drive out through Kampala to Good Shepherd’s Fold Orphanage near Jinja. This will be my first time to the continent of Africa and my first time to visit a third world country. I’m excited about the trip and very curious about how the trip will change my perspective on the world around me.

I would greatly appreciate the prayers of the Christian community that visits The Christian Guy Next Door blog. I don’t take anything for granted. I’m praying that the Lord will be merciful and keep me healthy and safe during my travels. There have been examples of tensions and political unrest in Sudan, Ethiopia, and Uganda this past week. My desire is to make this visit and to be a blessing to those at Good Shepherd’s Fold Orphanage. However, I am sensitive to the risks involved and want to proceed with all wisdom and guidance from the Lord. Please pray that the Lord will be gracious and merciful throughout all of this and that He will make the path and timing clear. Pray for me that I will be walking with the Lord and able to see His hand at work and discern His will.

My bags are packed with all sorts of gifts for the children at Good Shepherd’s Fold. It will be a great joy to deliver these gifts. I am mindful that all these things belong to the Lord. They are His and He can certainly see them through to their intended recipients. Please pray with me that my bags will all make it through without damage or any theft (so many folks have stories of having electronic equipment taken from bags on their way to Africa).

If I can find a connection to the internet near the orphanage, I hope to update this blog as often as possible to let you all know a little bit about what I’m seeing and experiencing along the way. May the Lord give me a quick and safe trip to Africa and may I have words of encouragement to share in the days ahead.

Blessings to you ~ Steadman
