I just took a break from writing a sermon and figuring out music for Sunday. I was droooooopy, man. Started to think about Starbucks. Why do I do that? Why it is so close?

Well on the way one of my “joel mix” CD’s was in the CD player. I’ve got to hand it to Kia. For a factory CD system in a low-end car, that Spectra CD player is pretty good.

Anyway, the CD was just beginning “Love Reign O’er Me.” Hey, maybe if they come up with, say, a CSI Chicago, they can start it out with the scream from “Love Reign O’er Me.”

Anyway, I had to wait at the light so I heard most of "Love" on the way to the caffiene store. That’s a hard song to beat. But on the way back I got a whole other musical experience – Mr. Smooth himself, Mr. Tony Bennett’s and his version of “Fly Me to the Moon.” That is such an awesome song! And his version is about as perfect as a song can be.

Flyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy me to the moon...

I’ve pasted the lyrics below, and the track list of that CD below that.

My dad really liked Tony Bennett. Tony Bennett, Johnny Cash, Dionne Warwick, Glen Campbell, Andy Williams, Bobby Darrin, Louis Armstrong, – even as I hit the long haired hard rock stage these were folks my dad and I both liked.

I think of my dad every time I listen to or see Tony Bennett. Like last night at the Grammy’s. There he was. Does the guy age? I see him, I think of my dad. I really miss my dad. I don’t think my dad would have liked U-2, but they rocked the house last night. And Bono and Mary J on “One” – that was interesting.

Fly Me to the Moon by Bart Howard

Poets often use many words to say a simple thing
It takes thought, and time and rhyme, to make a poem sing
With music and words, I've been playing
For you I have written a song
To be sure that you know what I'm saying
I'll translate as I go along:

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me know what spring is like
On Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, darling, kiss me

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I longed for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you
